CHARLIES GELATO GARDEN 

 
Strawberry season is over.  Due to the continued wet weather the berries are not up to the normal standard so we have made the decision to stop picking for sale.  Hope you enjoyed them while they were available and season's being season's now we just all have to wait until spring rolls around again.

Quality of the table grapes has also been affected by the wet weather but at this stage we still plan to start picking at the end of February with the season going through to early May - will keep you posted.

January FLAVOUR OF THE MONTH = Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Gelato.  In response to a very determined regular customer who soooo wanted peanut butter gelato we gave in and made it this months regular flavour.  it is soooo good we think it should be a standard flavour from now on.  If you like chocolate peanut slabs you will love this gelato.

We have been growing and selling fresh produce from our Matakana property since 1992. The emphasis has always been on providing the freshest possible produce to the local community from our road side stall in Sharp Rd.

Each year when the ‘open flag goes up’ at the gate locals return to buy the freshest and tastiest strawberries and grapes.

Gelato comes to Matakana...

Inspired by a trip to Italy where gelato ice-cream is a part of every day life, November 2007 saw the expansion of the gate sales into a purpose built shop with commercial kitchen. From here we sell our fruit and gelato.

Gelato is just like ice cream, only denser and thicker – with more flavour, less fat and less air than normal icecream. We make our gelato and sorbettos daily in small batches to keep the fresh taste and high quality. We like to use seasonal fruit either grown on the property or sourced locally.

Charlies Gelato Garden is modelled on a ‘gelateria artiginale’ where the gelato is made fresh each day from the best available ingredients.
