Winter Hours start from 9th May, from that week until mid September we will be open Friday-Sunday 10am-4pm, closed Monday-Thursday. 

Table grapes - season is over, last pick yesterday and last few grapes sold today 1st May. A reasonable season overall, some bad weather early on meant early season grapes weren't in great condition but the late season grapes made up for that by being in good condition and hanging on to the vines until now.

May special gelato flavour = Banoffee. Our lovely Beth is heading over seas at the end of May so this months flavour was her choice. It was hard for her to make up her mind (Snickers almost made it) but in the end her all time favourite is Banoffee - banana and caramel gelato swirled together.

We are still making ice cream cakes (17cm $35, 24cm $50) - you need to choose size plus three flavours of gelato or sorbetto.  When you order we appreciate three days notice if possible.

Wood fired pizza season finished on Sunday 14th February. Thanks everyone who came in and got great pizza from a great pizza team - thanks to Keegan, Nathan and Ben for their pizza fires and the truly excellent pizza dough!

We have been growing and selling fresh produce from our Matakana property since 1992. The emphasis has always been on providing the freshest possible produce to the local community from our road side stall in Sharp Rd.

Each year when the ‘open flag goes up’ at the gate locals return to buy the freshest and tastiest strawberries and grapes.

Gelato comes to Matakana...

Inspired by a trip to Italy where gelato ice-cream is a part of every day life, November 2007 saw the expansion of the gate sales into a purpose built shop with commercial kitchen. From here we sell our fruit and gelato.

Gelato is just like ice cream, only denser and thicker – with more flavour, less fat and less air than normal icecream. We make our gelato and sorbettos daily in small batches to keep the fresh taste and high quality. We like to use seasonal fruit either grown on the property or sourced locally.

Charlies Gelato Garden is modelled on a ‘gelateria artiginale’ where the gelato is made fresh each day from the best available ingredients.
