what we're about: our vision

Charlies is an artisan producer of award-winning, small-batch gelato, sorbetto and fine food products.

Charlies' Home is a destination for visitors to the Matakana area and an institution for our locals, where you can all enjoy a treat, take a break from your busy lives, and relax…Take time to be happy!

care for our team

  • We strive to employ local. Much of our team is locally based, and we support many young people in their first time joining the work force.
  • Our remuneration package is over and above the minimum wage rate. We value our team, and work to keep them. We have employees as part of the team that have worked with Charlies for over 15 years, and also several families that work with us where we’ve seen generations scoop with us.
  • On-the-job and industry training.

  • Constantly assessing flavours / ingredients to offer the best product we can
  • Developing Charlies Home to create a more enjoyable visiting experience

  • Invested in solar power to reduce Charlies’ impact on the draw from the grid
  • Organically grown produce on site, no harmful pesticides used on the property
  • Permaculture flower business Slow Blooms ethos features on property
  • A member of refillnz.org.nz, encouraging the use of refillable water bottles
  • Constantly working on our supply chain to work with Planet Conscious businesses
  • Discount on KeepaCups to encourage reduction of SUCs (Single Use Cups)
  • Team trained to offer a cone, rather than a cup to promote Zero Waste

A Matakana Must Do 😍 Charlies has been part of the local circuit for nearly 20 years, treating adults & kids alike to genuine Italian style gelato. With Andrew & Tania at the helm for the last 6 years, the product & brand have continued to improve from the awesome business Charlie & Heather started all those years ago. We ❤️ how many local folks we see again & again, and always welcome new suggestions on flavours to try. Supporting many of the local sports teams & schools, we enjoy seeing the winners present their vouchers with glee, & swap them out for a scoop 🍦 Charlies Wholefoods launches the Pantry Platters this month. We're gearing up for plenty of ice cream cakes ready for pre-Christmas, & the 🍕 Oven is heating up for December 1st.
